You’ve just finished assembling your woodenware beehive components and you want to know if you should paint them or not. Well I’ve made a new video to answer that question.

Many beehives are made of soft wood like pine and should be painted to protect your parts from Mother Nature. In general, you should never paint any wood that the bees will come into direct contact with. Leave all inside surfaces unpainted.

Always use an exterior, water-based, acrylic latex paint to paint your hive, and never an oil-based paint. Many beekeepers pick up discount paint that was coloured incorrectly from their hardware store. I recommend using a light colour like white or yellow for your hives, but really, any colour should work just fine if it’s not too dark.
